Man arrested for OWI and Flee and Elude early Friday

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sherrif's Office reports deputies responded to Decatur Township near the intersection of C.R. 352 and C.R. 669 around 4:25 a.m. for an occupied vehicle parked in the travel lane of C.R. 352.
The Decatur Police Department assisted deputies on scene and made contact with the driver, later identified as a 39-year-old Lawton man.
Authorities say the man was found in the driver's seat with a bottle of alcohol in his lap.
The report states the man refused to exit the vehicle after officers commanded him to.
The suspect then put his vehicle in drive, and attempted to evade law enforcement, leading to a short pursuit east before crashing in the 36000 block of C.R. 669.
The driver was taken into custody without incident before being taken to the hospital to be checked out.
He was subsequently arrested for OWI and Flee and Elude and taken to the Van Buren County Jail.
The incident remains under investigation.
