Man arrested on domestic battery charges against woman with no contact order

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - A man was arrested on a number of charges after he allegedly strangled and battered a woman who had a no contact order against him, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Kendrick Lee Lockett, 24, was arrested on the following charges:

  • Strangulation
  • Two counts of invasion of privacy
  • Two counts of domestic battery
  • Two counts of resisting law enforcement

On Monday, South Bend Police officers were called to a home for a domestic incident.

Police met with the victim at the residence and saw that she was crying, bleeding from her mouth and lip, had redness to her neck, and swelling above her eye, reports said.

She told police Lockett came over to play "Uno" with her and her neighbors and that he eventually became loud and angry.

When the victim told Lockett to stop arguing in front of "company," he allegedly punched her repeatedly in the face. He then threw her to the ground, reports said.

According to reports, the victim ran out of the house and Lockett chased after her. He eventually caught up and grabbed her neck and squeezed, police reported.

The victim said she had a hard time breathing until she could break free from Lockett.

After that, Lockett left the home, reports said.

Neighbors who witnessed the incident confirmed what the victim said.

According to reports, Lockett was convicted of domestic battery and invasion of privacy on April 19, 2022. A condition of his probation was that he have no contact with the victim. He was still on probation during Monday's incident.

Officers went to Lockett's home and positioned themselves in the front and back of the residence.

Soon after some officers approached the front door, Lockett allegedly ran out the back.

Despite police orders to stop, Lockett continued running, reports said.

Officers eventually caught up to Lockett but struggled to physically detain him.

During the struggle, an officer sustained a bloody knee.

Lockett is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.

He is due in court on November 10.
