Man charged after allegedly dragging woman by hair, shooting at car

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Charges have been filed against a man accused of dragging a woman by the hair and shooting at her car on July 5, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office reported.

During a block party in the 300 block of S. Bendix Street in South Bend, a woman stated that she got into an altercation with another woman at the party.

The victim told officers that the other woman began the altercation and that the two began fighting after the woman struck the victim in the face with a glass bottle, according to court documents.

During the fight, 39-year-old Lonce Woods stepped in to break it up.

The victim said Woods grabbed her by the throat, threw her to the pavement, and later dragged her down the street by her hair, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Officers observed injuries to the victim that were consistent with her statement.

The victim tried to leave the scene in her vehicle but Woods stood in front of her and produced a silver and black semi-automatic handgun, according to court documents.

The victim said Woods fired one round into the front of her vehicle, causing damage to it, according to court documents.

The victim then left the scene and later contacted police to report the incident.

A witness to the incident said Woods grabbed the victim by the throat and then threw her to the pavement, according to court documents.

The witness also saw the victim try to leave the scene in her vehicle and saw Woods standing in front of the vehicle while shooting one shot into the vehicle, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The victim’s vehicle has what appears to be a hole from a gunshot on the front bumper of her vehicle.

Shotspotter Technologies also documents one gunshot at that location at the time of the incident.

Woods is facing one count of criminal recklessness and one count of carrying a handgun without a license, according to court documents.
