Man charged with multiple counts of Child Molesting

John Maccombie

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Court documents from St. Joseph County reveal 73-year-old John Maccombie has been charged with Child Molesting after three victims under the age of 12 came forward.

Maccombie is charged with two counts of Child Molesting-Fondling or touching, both Level 4 Felonies, and Child Molesting, a Level 1 Felony.

His initial court hearing is set for Dec. 15.

The following contains information some may find disturbing.

The probable cause affidavit in the case states the Indiana Department of Child Services received a report on Nov. 7 of three children being molested by multiple people, including Maccombie.

The victims had known Maccombie for at least three years.

While being forensically interviewed, the victims stated they were molested by Maccombie at his residence.

The accusations include Maccombie touching the victims' genitals and victims touching his genitals.

The last time the victims were at Maccombie's home was the weekend of Nov. 1-2.

On Dec. 2, Maccombie was read his Miranda Rights, which he waived, and agreed to speak with investigators.

Maccombie told police he'd known the victims for three years and that he and his wife would take them to church on Sundays.

Maccombie claimed one victim was very physically affectionate and would ask him to massage their back and legs, to which he admitted to doing on several occasions.

Police say he admitted to placing a blanket over him and the child on his lap, at which point he pulled his genitals out so the victim could touch him.

Documents state he also admitted to touching that same victim's genitals.

Maccombie added he knew it was wrong and asked God to forgive him. He stated he was relieved when the children stopped coming around because there was no longer any temptation for him.
