Man fighting cancer makes memories with snow

South Bend residents driving toward University Park Mall on State Road 23 may have noticed a brand new monument.

It is a temporary monument that will teach a lesson in fighting, a lesson in making memories, and a lesson in never giving up despite the circumstances

Dennis Geans spent Saturday enjoying his snow masterpiece.

“This year we got quite a bit of snow, so might as well play with it,” said Dennis Geans.

Just last weekend parts of Michiana saw fifteen inches of snow, so now Geans has been spending hours sculpting.

“Well it's whatever you want it to be,” said Geans.

To this man, whatever it is, it is a gift for his grandkids.

“I ain't got anything better to do, so I thought I'd make some memories for the kids and the grandkids,” said Geans. “That's what life is all about - memories."

He is all about living life to the fullest, and to him living life to the fullest means a little more.

“Well, if you're not doing something, you're not living,” said Geans.

Geans does not know how much time he has left.

“I've got stage four terminal cancer, been fighting it for two years,” said Geans.

So for now, Geans builds and fights.

“Yeah, it is a fight, I'll tell you,” said Geans.

He knows life is not about what you build, but why you build it.

“Still here! It ain't beat me yet,” said Geans.
