Man found guilty in stabbing death of Trey Martinez

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – A man has been found guilty in the 2019 stabbing death of Trey Martinez.

Jason Collins was found guilty on one count of reckless homicide for the death of Martinez, according to court records.

In the early morning hours of September 29, 2019, South Bend Police were called to Marine Street for reports of a man down in the street.

Collins said he, Martinez, and another woman, Diane Schubert, had gotten into a brief verbal altercation that turned violent, reports said.

Collins pulled a folding knife from his pocket and stabbed Martinez in the neck, court documents said.

Martinez left the house and was then found in the street.

Sentencing for Collins is scheduled for June 29, 2021.

Schubert was charged with assisting a criminal. Schubert allegedly destroyed evidence and told her minor children to destroy evidence after the crime was committed by Collins.
