May 2020 is shaping up to be quite the chilly month across Michiana.
It’s a virtual certainty that the first two weeks of the month will end up with below normal temperatures, according to the Climate Prediction Center.
Typically, Michiana would see high temperatures climbing through the 60s and approaching 70 degrees by the middle of the month. Highs will stay in the 50s for the week ahead, and lows will fall to near the freezing mark.
So, what does this mean for you? You’ll probably need to adjust your planting plans, as a frost or freeze is likely for most of Michiana heading into Mother’s Day Weekend.
The second half of May will be on the cooler side as well, but we should see some moderation in temperatures toward the end of the month.
3 out of the last 4 Mays in South Bend have had below normal temperatures The coldest may on record was back in 1907, when the average temperature was only 51.7 degrees.
