In Tweetstorm, Mayor Buttigieg says article comparing Trump to mayor misses mark
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg responded to a Politico article on Twitter Thursday. The article says Trump's actions and behaviors are more similar to a mayor than the president.
The article is titled, "Trump is running the White House like he's America's mayor."
Mayor Buttigieg disagrees.
This piece completely misses what it means to be a mayor. The president is nothing like a mayor, and that's too bad. https://t.co/G2kDr7tSsW

Trump is nothing like an American mayor, not a modern one anyway. Certainly not a good one.

He has nothing resembling a "mayoral core." If he did, he'd be more concerned with solving problems. A mayor knows it's not all about him.

A mayor worries less about credit and blame, more about results. A mayor picks up the trash, plows the snow, fills holes in the road.

A mayor cannot possibly traffic in alternative facts, because the facts are everywhere.

A mayor cannot dismiss or ignore the press, because the press is made of people who live in the same community.

A mayor doesn't insult women. For one thing, he or she will run into their spouses or parents somewhere in town.

Contrary to the article, the Carrier stunt would never fly for a mayor, because people live here and would hold you accountable.

A mayor knows her highest responsibility is to unite her constituents, and does not pit them against each other.

A mayor assumes responsibility for what's happening in the city, good and bad. A mayor cannot afford to specialize in allocating blame.

Above all, a mayor calls a city to its highest values, and brings out the best in people.

If Donald Trump wants to be America's mayor, let him join me for a day in South Bend and see how a mayor and city get stuff done together.
