Mayor concerned about shootings at housing complex

Elkhart Mayor Dick Moore issued a press release about increasing the police presence at the Washington Gardens apartment complex.

Thursday just before 9 p.m. Elkhart Police were called to the 300 block of Wagner Avenue for reports of a shooting.

The victim told police he was in the courtyard of the Washington Gardens apartment complex when he got into an altercation with another person.

The victim, 37-year-old Dellvhon C. Brown, was shot in the stomach. He was still in the hospital as of Friday afternoon.

On December 19, 2014, police responded to the same complex about a shooting.

Ontario Brown, 16, had been shot in the head and died at the hospital.

The mayor says he met with the police chief and assistant police chief to discuss a strategy to make the area safer.

The mayor says they may increase patrols and may stop people to question their reason for being in the area.
