SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Ten members of the South Bend community got the opportunity today to vote in a federal election for the very first time.
They were joined by volunteers from One More Citizen INC, an organization that helps legal immigrants navigate the complex path to U.S. citizenship.
It was an emotional moment for many, finally getting the opportunity to cast their ballot for a president.
"It took me a while, because I wasn't, like, ready, and my husband pushed me that it was time for me to keep, you know, taking to become a US citizen. So, it's just because my husband was pushing me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have done this for a long time," stated First Time Voter Nora Castillo.
While today it was 10 nationalized citizens who got their chance to cast a vote for the first time, last week 20 first time voters got their chance.
