Memorial to be held on 2nd anniversary of Berrien County Courthouse shooting

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. – A memorial service will be held on Wednesday to celebrate the lives of Joe Zangaro and Ron Kienzle who lost their lives in the Berrien County Courthouse shooting on July 11, 2016.

Zangaro was head of security at the courthouse and Kienzle was a bailiff.

Both men were shot and killed when 44-year-old Larry Gordon grabbed a sheriff’s deputy’s gun while handcuffed and started shooting as he was being led out of a courtroom.

Gordon was facing charges related to sex crimes and kidnapping at the time of the shooting.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department will hold a memorial for Zangaro and Kienzle at 12:15 p.m. on the bluff in St. Joseph.
