Michigan battling flesh eating bacteria infection

DETROIT -- A Michigan woman is fighting for her life after being diagnosed with a flesh eating bacteria infection.

Crystal Spencer, currently in a Detroit hospital, has been diagnosed with Necrotizing Faciitis. This is the same infection that made headlines two months ago after a Georgia woman nearly died from the infection.

Doctors have removed part of Spencer's torso, about the size of a baby watermelon.

Her chances of surviving about about 30 to 40 percent.

"The surgeon keeps going in and cleaning it and cleaning it. But they're saying it could go either way," Jeff Spencer, Crystal's husband, said.

Crystal recently had surgery at a different Detroit hospital to remove an abscess on her leg. Her husband thinks that's where she got the infection.

He says he plans to sue.
