Michigan City 19-year-old charged with robbery, threatening victim with a gun
La Porte County Jail MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- A Michigan City 19-year-old is expected to go to jury trial later this year.
Amin Fleming faces multiple charges stemming from an incident in March 2025, including robbery and threatening a victim with a gun. The alleged victim told police that he was walking to the YMCA, when he encountered a group of males he recognized. He approached one of the males to say hello, after which that male allegedly punched the victim in the face. The victim says he ran away but did not realize he was being chased. One of the males caught up to him and allegedly took his coat and backpack. The victim stated he let them take the items because he was unsure whether they had guns or not; he noted that everyone in the group had body language that seemed to indicate they were armed.
The suspect later went to a home where one of the males in the group lives. He alleges that Fleming answered the door. The victim then allegedly asked Fleming to give him his things back. Fleming allegedly told the victim that his things were not there, and that if he returned there would be a problem. The victim said that before he left Fleming allegedly pulled a gun out of his waistband and showed it to him.
Video from inside the home where the alleged incident took place appears to show the males with the victim's backpack and coat. They can allegedly be heard talking and laughing about robbing someone. Investigators found that Fleming had prior gun and Domestic Battery charges, and that he had gang affiliation.
Fleming is charged with Robbery By Force, Intimidation, Dangerous Possession of a Firearm, and Criminal Organization Activity. His trial is scheduled for September 28, 2026.
