MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- Classes will resume as normal Thursday for Michigan City Area Schools after two days of disruption caused by vandalism.
Police say 21 catalytic converters were stolen from district buses Monday night, forcing many students to move to online learning Tuesday.
Nearby school districts, including Elkhart, La Porte, New Prairie, Merrillville, and South Central, loaned 19 buses so students could return to classrooms.
Michigan City Police Chief Marty Corley said investigators have at least one suspect and are reviewing additional leads. He added that the district is planning a security upgrade to protect its transportation fleet.
A district spokesperson said replacement parts are on the way, and buses are being prepped to return to service.
