Michigan City Police break ground on new station

The mayor, police chief and other officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Michigan City Police Department station.

The new facility is at Cleveland Avenue and Michigan Boulevard.

Mayor Ron Meer, Police Chief Mark Swistek and representatives from the design and engineering firm American Structurepoint, construction firm Larson-Danielson and D&M Excavating were on hand to speak during the event.

Construction will begin next week and is expected to be complete around September 2016.
