Michigan man arrested for possession of counterfeit bills
Michigan State Police VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- On Wednesday, troopers from the Paw Paw Post in Van Buren County responded to reports of forgery/counterfeiting after two suspects had used counterfeit currency in a Facebook Marketplace purchase of a designer belt.
The purchase meet-up occurred in the 19000 block of 32nd Street in Pine Grove Township.
After investigation, troopers quickly located the suspects at a nearby residence.
Approximately $36.4 thousand in counterfeit $100 bills were seized at the scene.
An 18-year-old Gobles man was arrested and lodged in the Van Buren County Jail for possession of counterfeit bills and uttering and publishing.
A 20-year-old Plainwell man was arrested and lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail on an unrelated outstanding warrant.
The investigation remains ongoing.
If you receive counterfeit bills, do not spend them, as passing fake money is a federal crime. Immediately report it to local police.
