BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Niles Post of Michigan State Police had their “STOP” program participate in cleaning efforts at Tiscornia Park in St. Joseph on Monday.
“STOP”, State Trooper Outreach Partnership, is now running at three Michigan State Police posts but is open to all.
Troopers work with civilian volunteers to help community members and improve our public spaces.
“We’ve had instances where someone flattens their tire and we see they don’t have the money, so we either get them a tow or new tire. We’ve seen someone who didn’t have a wheelchair ramp in their home and we built them one. Recently, two children in Benton Harbor had their bicycles stolen and we wanted to buy them new bikes,” said Ben Mahaffie, President of the State Trooper Outreach Partnership in Niles.
If you would like to volunteer with STOP or enlist their help, visit here.
