Mini-van catches fire and spreads to home

Elkhart County, Ind. -- In Middlebury a car caught fire, and the flames quickly spread to a nearby home.

The family did get out of the home without harm.

According to Assistant Middlebury Fire Chief Will Phillips, the family heard an explosion coming from their mini-van parked outside. They then ran outside and watched as their home burned.

Phillips said it took three hours to get it out of control. Emergency crews came from Middlebury as well as Bristol to fight the blaze.

"The car was fully involved. We had fire coming from the front side of the home and roof" said Phillips.

As of now, the Assistant Chief does not know the cause of the fire. He said investigators will be on the scene Friday afternoon.

The home was a total loss.
