Mishawaka High School holds military signing day

NOW: Mishawaka High School holds military signing day

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Multiple students at Mishawaka High School are being recognized for their intent to join the US military.

The school held its first ever military signing day. The event included students pursuant of joining several branches, including the Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, and Army.

A pair of students discussed their reasoning for enlisting. Edmund Snider, who will join the Navy, said the following:

I joined the Navy mostly because I had talked to my recruiter, for he'd come into our classes, so I talked to him for well over a year, and it just seemed like the right fit for me. I've had three knee surgeries, so I wanted something that wouldn't be as physical impact as the Army or Marines.

Holly Shine, who will join the Air Force, said the military fit her post-high school goals:

I knew I wanted an exciting job, and the military just fit all of my check, like checked all my boxes for what I wanted to do after high school.

Dozens of friends and family members attended to support these students.
