Mother arrested after two-county pursuit, other suspect still at large

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- The Marshall County Sheriff's Department says that a woman with a baby was detained and lodged for a felony warrant following a pursuit that took a Marshall County Officer into St. Joseph County.

The woman, Dawn Roush, was detained by officers with the St. Joseph County Police Department, who lodged her for a felony warrant out of Starke County.

The Marshall County Officer allegedly began the pursuit around 3:20 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 4 near US 31.

The pursuit took the officer and suspect vehicle north, down 1st Road and north again on Ironwood Road.

The suspect vehicle entered St. Joseph County and went down a dead-end road, Martindale Road. There, the vehicle allegedly drove around a house before colliding with a squad car and continued to flee, while the occupants threw unspecified items out of the vehicle.

Eventually the pursuit reached a residential area west of Ironwood Road and north of Ireland Road, where the officer lost the suspect vehicle.

At an unspecified later time, the suspect vehicle was found with no one inside.

Officers with the St. Joseph County Police Department allegedly found a woman with a baby nearby and detained her. Eventually the woman admitted to being a passenger.

The woman was identified as Roush and lodged for a felony warrant out of Starke County. The baby was given to a family member.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, there was also a man associated with the vehicle that the department was unable to locate. The areas where the unspecified items were thrown from the vehicle were checked, but the department was unable to find anything.

The case remains under investigation.
