LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A 69-year-old North Judson man is dead after a Thursday night crash near S.R. 39 and C.R. 950.

The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the 9200 black of S.R. 39 for a reported motorcycle crash around 6:29 p.m.

Authorities arrived to find Eddie L. Smith injured on the side of the road.

The investigation determined Smith was operating his motorcycle, traveling south on S.R. 39 when he then traveled left of center, across the northbound lane and off the east side of the road.

Smith was ejected from his motorcycle in the crash.

Smith was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

Deputies say alcohol was a factor in the crash.
