Multiple injured, two airlifted following Tuesday night crash

ABC 57

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- Several people were injured, including two people having to be airlifted from the scene, following a Tuesday evening crash at the intersection of 700 East and 200 North.

The Starke County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the scene around 6:41 p.m. in Washington Township for a two-vehicle crash with injuries.

Emergency responders arrived to find a significantly damaged GMC pick-up truck towing a trailer resting against a tree.

A Toyota passenger vehicle was also found in the yard of a nearby home. The Toyota had extensive front-end and rear-end damage.

Investigators preliminarily determined the GMC, driven by a 31-year-old North Judson woman, was traveling south on 700 East before failing to stop at the intersection of 200 North.

Authorities say that's when the GMC entered the pathway of the Toyota, driven by a 36-year-old Grovertown man.

The vehicle collided, resulting in the GMC's driver being injured, requiring her to be airlifted to a South Bend hospital.

The Toyota's driver was also injured and taken to Northwest Health–Starke Emergency Department with non-life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Toyota, a 22-year-old Grovertown woman, suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a South Bend hospital.

Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
