Multiple people injured, two airlifted, following two-vehicle crash on US 35
ABC 57 STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- Several people were injured and taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US 35 and S.R. 8 early Thursday morning.
The Starke County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the scene of the crash around 4:35 a.m.
Authorities arrived to find a 2008 Ford Taurus against a 2024 Jeep Compass resting against a guardrail on the south side of S.R. 8.
Investigators determined the Compass, driven by a 27-year-old Knox man, was traveling west on C.R. 100 North when he attempted to cross US 35 onto S.R. 8.
The report states that's when the compass entered the path of the Taurus, driven by a 21-year-old Warsaw woman.
Deputies say the Taurus was traveling south on US 35 at highway speeds.
The Taurus' front seat passenger, a 19-year-old Plymouth woman, was airlifted to the hospital with leg and head injuries.
The Taurus' rear seat passengers, a 19-year-old Knox woman and a 20-year-old Plymouth man, both complained of back pain and were taken to the hospital.
The Taurus' driver was also airlifted to a hospital for treatment of a head injury.
The driver of the Compass declined medical treatment at the scene but later sought medical attention.
Deputies say it's currently unknown if the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
