Large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes possible Thursday
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. — The 38th annual National Peace Officers Memorial was held Wednesday afternoon.
Berrien County’s fallen heroes were recognized in a heartfelt tribute at Lake Bluff Park.
The community gathered to remember the many officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in serving and protecting others.
“I think seeing the law enforcement here that continue to show their respect for what they paid brings some closure and some happiness to the tragedy that happened on the day that they lost their loved one, “ said Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey.
The monument lists the names of 17 officers killed in the line of duty including the bailiffs killed in the 2016 shooting at the Berrien County Courthouse.
The memorial was held during National Police Week which runs from May 12-18.
