ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Apple users are growing more concerned about digital privacy after the company released an update that could give the wrong party access to personal data, like phone numbers, addresses and even banking information.
The latest IOS (Apple’s exclusive operating system) update boasts a “name drop” option, which lets iPhone users share contact information simply by tapping phones together, similar to the company’s existing Air Drop feature.
And while rumors on social media claim the digital information could be shared just by walking past someone on the street, you actually have to give permission to another user before your information is sent their way.
Though the update automatically enables the name drop feature, users can turn it off easily. Just locate the Air Drop section in Settings and switch off “Bringing Devices Together.” Experts, however, recommend putting a password on your phone as well to keep it further protected from unwanted access.
The South Bend Police Department also shared a post dispelling rumors about the feature. To read what the department had to say, check out their post below or on Facebook.
