New details released about fatal construction accident

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department released new information about the construction accident that killed one worker and injured another on Tuesday in Watervliet.

Deputies say they were called to 8901 Industrial Park Drive at 6:42 p.m. after scaffolding and ladders collapsed at the site of new construction barn.

Carl Lee Stone, 75, was attempting to wire a light and fell approximately 25 feet, according to deputies.

Joshua Stone, 28, survived the fall. He was treated for a broken arm and possible internal injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Deputies say alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
