New development in downtown South Bend approved

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Common Council members approved a developer's plan to build a six story building near downtown.

Dave Mathews' plan was first rejected by the zoning board for issues with its height.

Mathews got around the issue by saying he would develop the property as a planned unit development.

Two neighborhood groups were divided on the issue of the new development.
