New text message scam warning for Indiana residents

The Better Business Bureau of Northern Indiana has issued a warning about text messages from scammers who are posing as the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

These fake text messages claim that Hoosiers returning to work are eligible for a $3,800 direct deposit payment through a program called “Back2Work”.

A link is provided in the texts for victims to submit their banking information to receive the money. However, the links are believed to contain harmful malware.

Malware has the ability to give scammers access to sensitive information on your device and could possibly lead to identity theft.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development will never request Hoosiers to verify personal information through text messaging.

Hoosiers are encouraged to ignore and delete any suspicious text messages received from a phone number claiming to be with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
