New YMCA daycare construction begins in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The keyword is affordability for the South Bend YMCA's new daycare program.

Denise Peters, COO of the YMCA told us that although there is a lot of quality daycare in the area, it's not enough, and the parents they see need good, affordable options.

The YMCA noticed a national gap in accessible and affordable childcare and their aim is to meet the needs of working families and those seeking affordable childcare in this area, through affordable rates, and scholarships.

The YMCA's commitment to breaking down barriers to quality childcare was symbolized today by the breaking of a wall, which will eventually lead to the new daycare addition to the current building.

"Yeah, and actually, it feels really good, because also taking away barriers, taking away barriers for those who can't afford sorry, I get really emotional when I talk about community need, because there is a lot of community for quality childcare and for people to feel that they have access to that. So that's something I'm really passionate about, and the YMCA is really passionate about, and we're able to break down some of those barriers. ...breaking down that wall is part of breaking down those barriers, and a good symbol of that." explained Peters
