New Zolman Tire scholarship helps eleven Michiana students go to college
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Zolman Tire recently offered for the very first time a scholarship for high school students to put toward the college of their choice.
The company also currently offers scholarships to Bethel College and Ivy Tech.
The application was open to students from four different counties including, Berrien, Cass, Elkhart, and St. Joseph.
Out of 121 applicants, eleven lucky Michiana students received the $1000 scholarship.
“What can we do for the community? Something unique, different? And we focused on High School students. Let’s help them. College at any level, at any school is expensive. So let’s see if we can help people a little bit. We originally started out with six $1000 scholarships, put it out in the media. There were 121 applications to our amazement and our surprise, it’s the first year. Trying to narrow it down to six was impossible so somehow we settled on eleven,” president of Zolman Tire Nate Zolman said.
To qualify, students needed to be in their senior year, have a GPA of at least 3.0 and plan on furthering their education.
“We have 125 employees and as we’ve been going through this experience together as a company and team, we feel like Santa Claus and we feel blessed that we’ve been in business for forty years. The whole St Joseph County and Michiana area has been great for our family of business and we’re just blessed to be able to pay it forward and help some high school students,” Zolman also said.
