Niles teen convicted of killing grandfather may get new trial

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A Niles teen convicted of killing his grandfather may get a new trial.

16-year old Dakota Eliason will be back in court on Thursday for an appeal.

The judge will decide if Eliason was properly represented by his attorney, Lanny Fisher.

They are also raising the question of whether or not the jury could see his ankle shackles.

Right now, Eliason is serving a life-sentence for the March 2010 shooting death of Jesse Miles.
