NOW: No. 2 Notre Dame lacrosse defeats No. 1 North Carolina in 10-5 ACC statement win

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- No. 2 Notre Dame made a major statement Saturday, knocking off top-ranked North Carolina 10-5 at Arlotta Stadium in a matchup between two of the nation’s top men’s lacrosse teams.

The victory marked Notre Dame’s sixth straight win over North Carolina and the 26th all-time meeting between the programs, with the Irish leading the series 15-11.

The Tar Heels grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, but Notre Dame flipped the game in the second. The Irish outscored North Carolina 4-1 in the period to take control, then added three goals in the third and held the Tar Heels scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Teddy Lally and Luke Miller led the way offensively with three goals each for Notre Dame. Matt Jeffery, Will Angrick, Brock Behrman and Jalen Seymour also scored. Defensively, the Irish limited one of the nation’s top offenses to just five goals and closed the game with a dominant final quarter.

Notre Dame coach Kevin Corrigan said the team’s focus now shifts quickly to the next challenge.

“I told the guys after the game, listen, we played so well today that we’re going to practice again on Monday just like we did last Monday because that’s what you do,” Corrigan said. “You have to turn the page and get onto the next game, and I’m excited to do that.”

Next up for the Irish is another ACC test at Duke on Saturday, April 18. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m.
