No charges filed in reported fight between dogs, owners outside pet store

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - No charges have been filed in connection with a reported fight between dogs and their owners in the parking lot of a PetSmart in Mishawaka on Monday, according to the Mishawaka Police Department.

Police reports state that a couple was walking their dog into the store when they passed by a vehicle with two dogs inside.

As they passed, the dogs in the vehicle jumped out and started attacking the other dog.

Owners on both sides tried to stop the dogs before a bystander came up and sprayed the dogs with peppermint oil, according to police.

At one point, a woman from the couple was bitten by the other party’s dog, police said.

During the incident, the owners became physically aggressive toward each other and the bystander before a PetSmart employee stepped in and stopped the fighting.

Those injured were treated at the scene.

Because someone was bitten by a dog, the St. Joseph County Humane Society was called to investigate.

The incident is still being investigated.
