NOW: Notre Dame alumni camp gives back to community

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- It's not your traditional "summer camp."

The Notre Dame Alumni Association Family Volunteer Camp began Monday.

Hundreds of Notre Dame Alumni and their family members from around the country are in South Bend for the week to give back to the community.

The families stayed on campus and volunteered for various service projects throughout town.

Tuesday, some of the volunteers helped the staff at Perley Primary Fine Arts Academy.

"Today right now we are just trying to uproot some of these bushes which is bit of a laborious task. Here at Perley Elementary they are doing a lot of cool work with aesthetics. They do a lot with the arts and everything. So they have some cool things going here and its fun to be part of that,” said Peter Fink, 2017 Notre Dame graduate.

More than 20 organizations benefit from the camp, including the South Bend Center for the Homeless and Unity Gardens.
