Notre Dame hockey team plays exhibition game against Russian Red Stars

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- On Tuesday night, the Notre Dame hockey team was hoping for a miracle on ice.

They took on the Russian Red Stars inside the Compton Family Ice Arena.

It was just an exhibition game, but really tested Notre Dame's abilities.

This is just the second time in 44 years that Notre Dame has played an international team from Europe. The last time was 29 years ago. They played on Jan. 3, 1973 and lost, 12 to 5.

The Russians wanted to repeat that result, but knew it wouldn't be easy.

Tuesday night's game was just an exhibition game, but the team did triumph over the Russians, 2 to 1.

Notre Dame is half way through its regular season. The team is on track to return to the Frozen Four later this year.
