Notre Dame trying to get defense back on track

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. --- The Notre Dame defense is struggling to stay consistent.

In their opening game, Notre Dame held Temple to just over 300 total yards.

But against Michigan, the Irish defense gave up nearly 500 yards of offense.

Players say that can't happen again this week.

"We've got to be mentally focused and not make mistakes like we did, and you know just go back to the drawing board and just do what we've been doing all week and preparing, just when we get on the field we've got to perform," said Irish Defensive Lineman Louis Nix III.

The Irish defense got back seven starters from last year.
