One dead after fatal motorcycle crash on Indiana Toll Road

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – A fatal motorcycle crash near the 74-mile marker of the Indiana Toll Road, three miles west of the Notre Dame Exit, claimed the life of a female passenger on Saturday just after 8:30 pm, according to the Indiana State Police.

Trooper’s initial investigation reveals that a grey 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 45-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, was heading east. The motorcycle suffered a possible rear tire failure, causing him to lose control of the bike, according to troopers.

The driver and the passenger were both thrown from the motorcycle, troopers said. The bike came to rest in the median.

The driver was transported to the hospital in serious, but non-life-threatening condition.

The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers have identified her as Kaneisha Akins, a 45-year-old resident of Toledo, Ohio. Her family has been notified.

The eastbound and westbound passing lanes were blocked for clean-up.
