One person found dead on Wabash Street in Michigan City on Christmas Eve

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – One person was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound in Michigan City on Friday, the Michigan City Police Department reported.

At 3:39 p.m., officers heard gunfire and began making their way to where they believed it was coming from.

As officers headed to the scene, dispatch received reports of a gunshot victim in the area of West 11th Street and Wabash Street.

Multiple units responded to the scene and found a person lying on the sidewalk on the west side of Wabash Street, just north of West 11th Street.

The person suffered from an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased when emergency units arrived.

The victim’s family was located and identified the male as 20-year-old London Lamonte Long of Michigan City.

This is an ongoing investigation.

There is no suspect in custody at this time.

Detectives said it appears this was an isolated incident.
