Palisades Nuclear Power Plant under NRC review

VAN BUREN CTY, Mich. -- The Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Van Buren County is receiving harsh criticism from the government.

Last year, the plant had five unexpected shut downs. The plant is currently under a lengthy review by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

One of the worst situations involved a safety violation. Employees alerted management saying a procedure involving electrical circuits was not up to standards, and no one in the chain of command has made any safety changes.

"We've got to get ourselves back on track so that,” said Mark Savage. “This recover plan will help us get back on track and moving forward so that we can get back to the levels we were in 2010."

A final review period is currently going on. If the preliminary findings by the NRC hold up, Palisades would join four other power plants as the most deficient power plants in the nation.
