NOW: People enjoy First Friday Festivities after winter storm

SOUTH BEND, Ind --- Folks in downtown South Bend enjoyed the First Friday of February after being cooped up this week during the storm of the season.

The theme of this February’s DTSB First Fridays was fire and ice, and people were eager to indulge in all of the festivities.

“We look forward to this Februarys first Friday the ice and fire one,” said Hannah Davis-Dewitt, who attended First Fridays with her kids and friends.

“The hot chocolate, the ice sculptures, and the you know just being out and about with folks again,” added Taryn MacFarlane and her daughter Jordan.

Businesses were just as happy to welcome people back.

“Man I'm so excited, dry January is over and we finally get to be back to having fun and doing a great time,” said Matt Lester the managing partner at Spirited Bar in downtown.

From kids to pups everyone bundled up, braced the cold and even enjoyed what was left behind from the storm.

“I really like that South Bend does these First Fridays and we really like the winter ones cause my family likes the snow,” said Davis-Dewitt.

“Michiana natives seem to love the cold so it’s not going to stop anybody,” said Carolyn Lara, who enjoyed the festivities with friend.

The next round of First Fridays festivities isn’t until March, but restaurant week is still happening through this Sunday, offering deals for small businesses in downtown South Bend.
