SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Four high school football programs, four undefeated records, and with the postseason approaching, the stakes are only getting higher.

Penn, Northridge, Edwardsburg and Berrien Springs have combined for 34 wins without a single loss. But while their records tell a similar story, their roads to perfection have looked anything but alike.

The Penn Kingsmen didn’t just finish the regular season undefeated. They dominated their way to a 9-0 record. Five consecutive shutouts highlighted a suffocating defensive stretch that helped establish Penn as one of northern Indiana’s most formidable teams.

The Kingsmen put an exclamation point on their regular season with a commanding 38-7 victory over previously unbeaten Saint Joseph, securing the Northern Indiana Conference championship.

Now, Penn shifts its attention to the postseason, where the Kingsmen are scheduled to face Valparaiso on Oct. 30.

Across the state line, Edwardsburg has taken a different approach to its undefeated campaign: a punishing ground attack. The Eddies improved to 8-0 after powering past previously unbeaten Vicksburg in a 59-27 victory, continuing an impressive season built around their ability to control games on the ground.

Perhaps the most remarkable story in Michiana belongs to Northridge. One year after finishing 3-8, the Raiders have completely rewritten the narrative under first-year head coach Luke Amstutz.

Northridge completed a stunning 9-0 regular season with a thrilling 37-30 victory over top-ranked Warsaw, securing just the second Northern Lakes Conference championship in program history. For Amstutz, the victory represented more than another win.

“That was a fun game. Hats off to Curtis and Warsaw. They battled,” Amstutz said. “That was an incredible game, one of the best high school football games I’ve been to in years. I’m just awfully proud of our kids.”

Northridge will host Mishawaka on Friday in its sectional opener.

And the list of Michiana’s unbeaten teams doesn’t end there. Berrien Springs has quietly put together an impressive season of its own, with the Shamrocks sitting at 8-0.

With Hudson up next, Berrien Springs has an opportunity to keep its perfect record intact and add another milestone to an already memorable campaign.
