Pickup truck catches fire on shoulder of US12

NILES, Mich. -- A pickup truck was engulfed in flames Sunday afternoon on the shoulder of US 12 near Southwestern Michigan College.

The Niles Township Fire Department responded to the fire.

April Mitchell posted photos and a video of the burning truck on her Facebook page.

She said she was driving behind her parents when she noticed they pulled over quickly and smoke began coming out from under the hood.

Almost immediately, the truck caught fire.

Her parents Mitchell they started smelling burning rubber and the floorboard started getting hot so they pulled over.

Mitchell said her parents got out of the truck before it caught fire.
