SOUTH BEND, Ind. – An investigation is underway into two shootings that occurred Sunday morning which are unrelated, police say.
A ShotSpotter alert was issued where officers responded to the 1000 block of W. Colfax Avenue Oct. 28 at approximately 1 a.m.
Upon arrival, police allegedly discovered a 19-year-old man injured with a non-life threatening leg wound. The subject was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released.
A home and two vehicles suffered damage from the bullets.
Officials say no other injuries were found.
Also on Saturday, Oct. 28, authorities received a call that a 19-year-old woman had been shot in the hand.
Officers arrived to the 1100 block of E. Mishawaka Avenue at approximately 3 a.m. where they allegedly discovered a prior incident resulted in the woman grabbing a gun from her vehicle.
Authorities say, the 19-year-old was met by security who attempted to stop her and during the confrontation, the gun was discharged and injured the woman’s hand.
South Bend Investigative unit is handling both cases.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP or the South Bend Police Department at 574-235-9201.
