Police arrest Michigan man suspected of hiring hitmen to kill wife, cover tracks

GROSSE POINTE, Mich. -- There are shocking new details in a Michigan murder mystery.

On Monday morning, police arrested a Grosse Pointe businessman - suspected of hiring a hitman to kill his own wife.

Now, Bob Bashara is accused of hiring another hitman to get rid of the first.

His lawyer is shocked by the charge.

"It doesn't happen to me often, but I'm speechless," said David Griem, Bashara's lawyer. "He had no idea why he had been arrested. He was shocked when I told him what the charge was going to be."

Last January, police found Bashara's wife - strangled - in a Detroit alley.

A former handyman confessed to the crime, but claimed Bashara forced him to do it at gunpoint.

Right now, Bashara is only a "person of interest" in that case.
