ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- An investigation is underway after an officer fired their weapon during a police chase.
This happened at 8:20 a.m. this morning, May 11. St. Joseph County Police were called to the 52000 block of Hastings Street on reports of unwanted persons/trespassing. When officers arrived, one suspect ran away. That person was caught and taken into custody.
Investigators say that at roughly the same time, a car carrying two people fled the scene. That's around when an officer fired their weapon; no one was hit. Officers arrested the suspects in the car after a chase.
Per protocol, the officer who fired their weapon is on administrative leave pending the investigation. The South Bend Police Department is leading the investigation and will have updates as they become available.
