Police identify man pulled from vehicle in St. Joseph River

ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Police have identified the man whose body was pulled from a vehicle that went into the St. Joseph River on Monday morning.

The man was identified as 58-year-old Phillip Hickman of South Bend.

Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, an officer at McNaughton Park was flagged down by a witness who saw an SUV go into the St. Joseph River.

The officer spotted a vehicle floating in the river with a man in the driver’s seat.

The SUV was pulled from the river at 2:17 p.m. Hickman was removed from the vehicle and pronounced deceased.

The case remains under investigation.
