Police identify suspect in chase, officer-involved shooting

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The man who led police on a chase from Niles to South Bend Wednesday night, which ended in an officer-involved shooting, has been identified as 32-year-old Joshua Ringle, according to Indiana State Police.

Police say he led police on a chase from a dispensary in Niles to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in downtown South Bend.

Following the chase and a shooting, Ringle was found dead at the bottom of an embankment near the St. Joseph River.

His cause of death has not yet been determined.

A woman who was in the vehicle with him during the incident was not injured and was not charged.

According to previous reporting, Ringle was involved in a police chase in 2014. On December 22, 2014, police say Ringle led them on a chase, stole a vehicle and eventually ran into the lake on Notre Dame's campus.

He allegedly threatened police while in the water, saying he had a gun and would shoot them.
