Police pursuit in Van Buren County leads to one arrest

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. - The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports that a deputy was on routine patrol when they witnessed a truck driving recklessly around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities say the truck then entered the parking lot of a gas station on M43 and M40 Highways, where the vehicle briefly stopped.

According to documents, when the deputy attempted to contact the driver, the 2018 Ford F150 fled the scene at a high rate of speed West on M43. 

The deputy then initiated lights and sirens and began pursuing the suspect.  

The suspect attempted to go off road on 36th Avenue in Waverly Township when the driver abandoned the truck and fled. 

Documents state as the investigation progressed, information was obtained that the suspect was at a residence on 28th Avenue after being picked up a distance from the scene.

Deputies were able to locate and arrest the driver, a 20-year-old Kalamazoo man, without incident. 

Authorities say the incident is still under investigation.
