Police release name of Walmart armed suspect

The Special Crimes Unit of the Amarillo Police Department has released the name of the man who allegedly entered a Walmart while armed and took at least one person hostage.

The suspect has been identified as 54-year-old Mohammad Moghaddam.

Amarillo Police said they received a call about 11 a.m. about a possible barricaded subject/workplace violence event.

When police arrived they learned at least one person had been taken by a male suspect inside the store.

At 12:22 p.m., APD SWAT came in contact with Moghaddam and shot him.

Police do not believe anyone else was injured.

Police confirmed via Twitter they had killed the suspect.
