Body camera photos released by police on August 15 show the suspect and vehicle involved in the August 1 incident.
BENTON HARBOR, Mich.—The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety is searching for a suspect in a car theft who was able to run from police on August 1.
The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Antonio Terryll Wimberly of Benton Harbor, is being sought for questioning regarding an incident that occurred on August 1.
At about 7:40 a.m. on August 1, officers found a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the River Terrace Apartment complex.
Officers this morning were patrolling and an officer saw a vehicle parked and it looked out of place, it looked suspicious to him so he started to investigate, he ran the plates and it came back stolen,” Benton Harbor Public Safety Deputy Director Michael Clark said.
The vehicle, a silver Nissan Pathfinder, was identified as being stolen out of Kentwood, Michigan.
A man, identified Thursday as Wimberly, was found sleeping in the backseat.
During the investigation, the man ran from officers and a pursuit began.
The man was able to get back into the Nissan and drove off.
Police eventually called off the pursuit and are now seeking the public’s help in locating Wimberly and the vehicle.
Wimberly is also wanted for an unrelated offense.
